Leading Safe Manufacturer Issues Distressing Crime Wave Warning
Reports indicate home and business break-ins have tripled within past six months

Brown Safe Manufacturing is warning all property owners of a dramatic increase in reported burglaries and internal thefts within the last six months.
“Based on direct client reports, the number of break-ins and internal thefts for home and business owners has increased threefold since last October,” states Lynel Brown, Vice President of Brown Safe Manufacturing.
BSM, a leading provider of high security safes, vaults, and protection systems for consumer, commercial, and military use has followed crime trends over the last 30 years.  “As expected, this rise in theft parallels the economic downfall. It’s imperative that property owners take action to secure their valued assets.”

Contacts within the police and security sectors have also noted a recent upsurge in crime though these agencies are rarely reporting full findings. Lynel and her team have been reviewing a number of the reported cases to better understand the core causes of this increase and have identified the following three primary causes:

Economic Hardship Means More Theft
When times are tough, it’s common for those under severe financial hardship to resort to less than honest means of monetary gain. Theft from hardship is not limited to traditional break and enter robberies but also includes internal theft by employees. “We have been receiving increasing reports of thefts within homes by repairmen, contractors, yard maintenance workers, housekeepers, and live in staff members,” states Lynel.

Ineffective Safes Lead to Increased Burglary Rates
The continuing rise in free online information resources like YouTube has empowered those anxious to share their knowledge. Lesser know truths are rapidly being revealed and exploited in detailed how-to videos easily viewed by anyone possessing the skill to simply type a phrase like “safecracking” into a search engine. One recently revealed truth has proven devastating to safe owners… Cost cutting competition within the safe industry means most top selling safes appear robust but are in truth severely crippled in their core ability to protect from theft. The vast majority of safes found in homes and in some businesses can be forced open within minutes by unskilled thieves using standard tools. Armed with this new knowledge, amateur criminals have taken up burglary specifically to target these safes and their high yield contents. It’s the crime of the times.

Amateur Thieves are Gaining Advanced Criminal Educations
In addition to videos on safecracking, inexperienced criminals now have instant access to a large selection of burglary videos revealing secrets previously reserved for the criminal elite. “We recently found a video on YouTube where young criminals in a store filmed themselves watching another Youtube video on their laptop showing them how to break into that stores particular model of safe…and they quickly succeed in gaining entry!”

These findings suggest the current wave of thefts will continue to rise as long as opportunities for easy profit persist.
Brown Safe is calling for a large scale response to this immediate threat. “Home and businesses owners can combat this rising wave of burglaries by employing simple security steps to protect their property,” says Lynel.
