The British automaker Aston Martin is renowned for producing some of the world’s most beautiful luxury sports cars. Their iconic coupes are famous for their association with the James Bond franchise, and indeed 007’s ride usually steals the show. However, you don’t need a license to kill to enjoy one of these beauties. And if you’ve had to end your dream of a jet setting super spy because you have a family now, don’t give up just yet.Aston Martin has produced the company’s first four-door version, and the Aston Martin Rapide may very well be the world’s most elegant four-door sports car.
Although the two extra doors are a distinct departure from Aston’s lineup, it is still immediately recognizable as an Aston Martin. The Rapide’s proportions are in keeping of their traditional coupes’ and retains its sporty appearance through the combination of a low slung roof line, large 20″ wheels, and pillarless side glass.
Specifically designed to provide easy access and avoid door dents and dings , the four “swan wing” doors open up and out at 12 degrees and the door open angle has been increased to a full 70 degrees to accommodate entry and exit into this classy machine.
The Rapide features a hand-built 6.0-liter v12 engine producing 470bhp with peak power being delivered at 6000 rpm. A specifically tuned six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission allows the driver to change gear automatically or manually via the steering column-mounted magnesium paddles. This four-door is capable of sprinting from zero to sixty in 5.1 seconds.
Dual cast floating brake discs combine aluminum and iron to take advantage of the benefits that each of these materials offer. Both the front and rear calipers are a monobloc design for maximum strength and rigidity for increased braking efficiency. The calipers feature six pistons on the front brakes and four pistons at the rear to provide a large brake pad area to dissipate the high temperatures generated during braking.
Entertainment for the rear passengers is provided by two 6.5 inch LCD screens integrated into the back of the front seat headrests, positioned at eye level. A six-DVd multi-changer is located behind a removable panel in the luggage compartment and provides hours of entertainment with sound being delivered via wireless headphones or Bang & Olufsen audio system.
